Tourism’s heroes have just over two days to enter their business for the Lilizela Stories of Survival campaign.
South African Tourism – with Tourism Update as the media partner – has embarked on a tactical initiative to honour, acknowledge and collect the stories of tourism products that have found creative ways to keep their doors open and/or retain their employees during the last 18 months during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Entries for this will close at COB on Thursday, September 2 so please get your stories/entries in by clicking on this link and following the instructions.
“We know and understand that these are extremely difficult times that we are faced with and have no choice but to live with this pandemic and this new norm. Our intention with this initiative is to honour these heroes that have been able to keep their businesses open, share their stories, salute them for their courage and thank them for their resilience,” said an SA Tourism spokesperson.
She noted that, to support these tourism businesses, SA Tourism would also reward them by including their survival stories with their special deals and/or rates to help them continue to survive.
South Africa is currently on adjusted alert level 3 as of July 26, 2021, and the economic impact of these restrictions as well as the prior varying levels, have posed the greatest threat to economic recovery, especially within the tourism sector.
The prolonged period of uncontrolled infections may continue to cause far greater economic damage than the restrictions put in place. It disrupts production and deters people from venturing out to take a break in public spaces, entertainment venues and consuming tourism attractions and experiences.
