Home team Southern Guards GC led the field after day one with players noting the significance of competing on home ground. 

“Probably the pinnacle of my career, honestly,” said South African Professional Golfer Dean Burmester. “I’ve played all over the world and I’ve never felt this kind of emotion and this electricity.”

South African Professional Golfer Charl Schwartzel described the atmosphere as “one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a golf course. That first tee gave me goosebumps. I almost had tears in my eyes. It was a really proud moment.”

For South African Professional Golfer Louis Oosthuizen, who played a key role in efforts to bring the tournament to South Africa, the event represents a milestone. “I know what it took to bring this tournament here and the fans were unbelievable. For a Thursday, to have this many people here, it’s all our dreams come true.”
