Morukuru Ocean House to close for expansion

Morukuru Family will close its exclusive-use Morukuru Ocean House in De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Western Cape during June and July for a refurbishment and extension project. The property is scheduled to reopen on August 1.

The refurbishment will expand the villa from four to five en-suite bedrooms while retaining the existing study/children’s bedroom. Capacity will increase to a maximum of 10 adults and two children under 16.

Morukuru Family said the property will remain exclusive-use only and rates will remain unchanged despite the additional bedroom and upgrades.

The new east-facing, en-suite bedroom will include air conditioning, a private terrace and an outdoor shower.

The existing lounge area will be expanded to include a TV room and library.

Additional upgrades include a second rooftop terrace on the west side of the upstairs bar, a new ocean-view hot tub, ceiling fans in the four existing ocean-facing bedrooms, updates to the children’s room with two single beds and refreshed vegetation on the property’s green roof.

Vervoort Living has been appointed to redesign the interiors. The updated design will incorporate beige and blue tones, inspired by the surrounding beach and fynbos landscape, alongside works by South African artist Lionel Smith.

The company also confirmed that the minimum stay requirement at Morukuru Family De Hoop during peak season 2027 has been revised to three nights.
