Karen Dewhurst has been appointed new Senior Travel Consultant at Sikeleli Africa Safaris, at the Victoria Falls office.
Dewhurst has over a decade of experience working in the hospitality, travel and tourism industry. Prior to joining Sikeleli Africa Safaris, she worked in a variety of roles, including the British Horseracing Authority and as an Events Manager for Mitchells and Butlers in London Leicester Square. Since then returning home and working at Zambezi Explorer as General Manager. She then joined Safari Destinations as Safari Consultant for Zimbabwe.
She holds diplomas from the American Hotel and Lodging Association Management, and in Events Organising, as well as Wedding Planning. Dewhurst also received several certificates from the Hospitality Training Institute in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Director of Sikeleli African Safaris, Danielle Ponter said: “She will be at the forefront of building relationships and nurturing relationships with our repeat and new guests and, with the knowledge that she brings to the table, is a valuable addition to our growing team.”
Janet Wilkinson was promoted to Programme Manager of Children in the Wilderness, Wilderness Safaris social development partner, in June.
Wilkinson joined CITW in 2011, playing a key role in co-ordinating CITW South Africa and the Greater Mapungubwe Transfrontier Conservation Area programme.
She holds a Field Guides Association of Southern Africa qualification and is a DEAT Registered Tourist Guide; she has also completed a Specialist Field Guide Ranger Programme, and a Wildlife Filmmaking Short Course. In 2006 she obtained her MBA from Henley Management College in the UK.
Tsogo Sun’s SunSquare Cape Town City Bowl and StayEasy Cape Town City Bowl hotels, which will open in September, have appointed a new HOD team.
Chandresh Singh has been appointed General Manager and Deidre Strydom Deputy General Manager. Natasha Engel is the new Executive Housekeeper, Que-Anne Hatton-Jones is PA to the General Manager, Marlene Makinson is Executive Chef, and Belinda Williams-Olivier is Financial Controller. Shaheem Ismail is the new Security Manager, Jason La Fleur is F&B Manager, Nathan Pereira is Guest Services Manager and Yasser Domingo, the new Maintenance Manager.
