Gale Kinghorn has been appointed as the new Sales Manager at Tanda Tula where she will oversee trade relations and work closely with the reservations and operations teams.

Kinghorn has experience in sales and client services with a background in relationship-building and customer-focused roles. She will be involved behind the scenes and on the ground, engaging directly with trade partners and visiting agents at camp. 

Air Mauritius CEO returns

Andre Viljoen is set to return to the helm of Air Mauritius nearly a decade after his departure from the airline with effect from October 15.

He will then step down from his current role as MD and CEO of Fiji Airways after 10 years with the airline. He will remain on its board of directors.

Viljoen started his career with British Airways (Comair) in South Africa in the late 1980s as Financial Manager and soon became Group CFO and Commercial Director. In 1995, he took up the position of COO with South African Express Airways and, in 2000, was promoted to Executive Vice President and CFO at South African Airways (SAA). In 2002, he became President and CEO of SAA.

Viljoen will bring 45 years of airline leadership experience when he returns to the role of Air Mauritius CEO. 

UN Tourism nominates female Secretary-General

Shaikha Al Nowais has been nominated by the UN Tourism Council to be the first woman Secretary-General in its history, subject to approval by the UN Tourism General Assembly.

Al Nowais has 16 years of experience in global hospitality and has been Corporate Vice President of Owner Relationship Management at Rotana Hotels, Chairperson of the Tourism Working Group at the Abu Dhabi Chamber, board member of the Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council, member of the advisory board of the UAE Tourism Council and among the board of trustees at Les Roches Hospitality Academy.

Leonie Andereya has been appointed as the new GM of the Radisson Collection Hotel, Waterfront Cape Town. Andereya brings extensive experience from Radisson RED Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and the Savoy Hotel. She worked as Curator for six years when she acquired extensive knowledge of the broader Radisson Hotel Group brands. Andereya holds, among other qualifications, a master’s degree in industrial and organisational psychology from the University of Liverpool.

New board member for Kenya’s Tourism Regulatory Authority

The CEO of the Kenya Association of Travel Agents, Nicanor Sabula, has been appointed to the board of the Tourism Regulatory Authority for a three-year term. He brings two decades of experience in the industry.

Sabula, who holds an MA from the University of Nairobi and a BSc degree from Egerton University, has served as MD for the African Association Management Company.
