SANParks renews deal for seasonal Namaqua flower camp

Chiefs Tented Camps has been awarded a second five-year concession by South African National Parks (SANParks) to operate the seasonal Flower Camp in Namaqua National Park.

The announcement comes ahead of the 2025 wildflower season, which will mark the camp’s 14th year of operation in the park. The concession allows Chiefs Tented Camps to continue offering temporary accommodation during the peak bloom period, which typically runs from late August to mid-September.

The camp was first launched in 2011 and received its initial five-year concession in 2019. It operates exclusively during the wildflower season when the region’s desert landscape transforms into one of the world’s most prominent floral displays.

The camp’s temporary setup is transported and constructed annually with infrastructure arriving on site shortly before the season opens and removed entirely afterwards. This approach helps ensure minimal environmental impact in the protected area.

Namaqua National Park is considered one of South Africa’s most significant biodiversity hotspots with thousands of plant species, many of them endemic, blooming during the short flower season.
