SANParks has suspended the indemnity and verification form requirement at Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) with immediate effect.
The measure was implemented to improve verification and governance processes. However, SANParks said its implementation resulted in “operational delays and visitor frustration”.
“We have listened to the concerns raised by visitors and tourism partners and have acted decisively,” SANParks said.
Over the next 12 months, SANParks will introduce a fully digitised ID and passport verification system at park gates as well as high-speed scanning technology, which it says will “guarantee accurate compliance while delivering an uninterrupted experience”.
During this transition period, gate operations will continue without the indemnity form requirement.
The announcement follows engagement between SATSA and SANParks this week after industry feedback on the indemnity verification process at TMNP.
SATSA said SANParks has undertaken to keep the industry updated on the progress of the digital verification process.
