At Sense of Africa, people are the greatest asset and the soul of the business with DNA built on the values the company holds most dear:

Sense of Africa people on the ground walk the journey with real practice in their respective fields. This guarantees exceptional, unique and authentic experiences for guests across its African footprint. The company goes beyond and, through its internship programmes, trains fresh graduates and unemployed learners with hands-on practical knowledge and theory, and a view to permanent employment with Sense of Africa.
The Botswana office, based in Maun, has excellent exposure to suppliers who operate in the Delta and beyond. Face-to-face, in-office training, followed by trips to luxury lodges, enhances local knowledge of the complexities of water- and land-based camps, seasonality and inter-camp transfers. This is a team of experts on overland and self-drive trips.
Every year, 15-20 exceptional students get the opportunity for first-hand tutelage training with Sense of Africa across East Africa. They are taken through various departments for three or six months. Drivers and guides are trained every year to improve their knowledge, skills, attitudes, customer service and competencies necessary for them to effectively and efficiently guide visitors from all over the world. Sense of Africa also has ongoing training arrangements with Strathmore University and the renowned Kenya Utalii College in Nairobi for team refresher courses.
South Africa follows a similar programme with students from the School of Tourism and Hospitality at the University of Johannesburg as well as unemployed youth who have completed high school but have not managed to start their working careers. Sense of Africa actively recruits tourism graduates seeking entry-level positions in Operations, Business Development and Contracting teams, and enables career growth into more senior roles over the years.
The Sense of Africa Guide Academy, operating from Johannesburg, recruits from language programmes in Soweto where students have learned German. It offers the opportunity to qualify as registered tourist guides for all nine regions across South Africa, to become full-time employees of Sense of Africa and guide for key accounts operating group series.
The Sense of Africa Namibia team actively facilitates guide training, assisting new and experienced guides alike to continue growing. Through structured training sessions, mentoring or field exposure, Sense of Africa ensures all guides, regardless of experience level, possess the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver exceptional experiences.
Namibia, like the rest of the footprint, firmly believes in “educationals”: organised trips that allow Sense of Africa to invest in, train and inform staff, guides and agents. These trips give them first-hand experience of the incredible destinations Sense of Africa sells. Cross-training with staff and clients in a unique environment such as the Namib Desert provides a deep understanding of the local culture, the unique features of the product and the high standard of service Sense of Africa offers through these experiential trips.
