Tourism skills shortage needs urgent intervention

The results of our latest poll indicate that a shortage of skilled and experienced tourism professionals is one of the most pressing issues hampering the industry’s ability to reach its full potential.

Of respondents to the poll, 71% said lack of specialist skills is one of the major barriers to tourism growth while 28% said other issues are having a bigger impact. Just 1% said skills shortages are not a concern.

Traditionally, affluent travellers have proven to be resilient – even during tough economic cycles. However, recent global reports suggest that even high-income travellers are beginning to show signs of pullback with some putting luxury travel plans on hold.
