Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape has completed upgrades at four of its six lodges – Longlee Manor, Eagles Crag Lodge, Riverdene Lodge and Sarili Lodge.
Eagles Crag Lodge has undergone soft refurbishments in its TV lounge, foyer and rooms, including new bed linen, cushions and LED lights. The wooden pathway has been repaired and re-varnished. Sarili Lodge’s deck has new couches.
At Riverdene Lodge, the teen chill-out area, lounges and boma deck have been renovated and the deck refurnished. LED lights have been fitted throughout and the lodge has been repainted. The dining room has undergone soft refurbishment.
One of the rooms at Longlee Manor has been upgraded to provide easy access for guests with physical challenges. This included enlarging the bathroom and shower area and installing a double sink at an appropriate height to provide wheelchair access.
As part of the reserve’s green initiative, energy-efficient lighting has been installed in the upgraded rooms, suites and some public areas. A heat pump has been installed in the staff accommodation to test efficiency and possibly introduce to guest rooms later. Towels, linen and items of furniture were donated for recycling and reuse.
