eThekwini water – no cause for concern
The eThekwini (greater Durban) Municipality has assured the public that the city’s tap water is safe. This comes after several complaints last week about the colour and taste of tap water in large parts of the city.
Michael Singh of the Department of Water and Sanitation says the discolouration is due to increased levels of manganese in the water from Wiggins Waterworks. Singh stresses that these levels are still well within the normal range for potable water and it is safe to drink, despite the slight metallic taste. Both eThekwini and Umgeni Water are working on the affected areas and say the water will be back to normal soon.
