Visit Stellenbosch, in its recent Annual Tourism Economic Impact Study, says 1.3 million overnight visitors to Stellenbosch generated R13 billion (US$800 million) and supported 48 007 jobs throughout the municipality in 2025.
According to the study, approximately 40% of international visitors to the Western Cape choose Stellenbosch. The number of foreign tourists visiting the region in 2025 (1 437 773) has not yet fully recovered from pre-pandemic levels (1 944 942 in 2019) but they are spending, on average, 47.6% more than they spent pre-COVID.
Visit Stellenbosch says it continues to focus on growing year-round demand, encouraging longer stays and ensuring tourism benefits the local community.
