Wilderness Rwanda has opened Wilderness Magashi Peninsula – an exclusive new camp set on a private peninsula in Akagera National Park. The park is managed by African Parks in partnership with the Rwanda Development Board.
“Magashi Peninsula is an exciting addition to our private concession within the park,” said Manzi Kayihura, Wilderness Rwanda Executive Director. “Akagera is a landscape of immense beauty, ecological significance and resilience. This launch deepens our dedication to honouring its wildlife, supporting neighbouring communities and sharing its stories with travellers seeking meaningful, immersive safari experiences.”
The camp’s design was developed through a partnership between Luxury Frontiers and Artichoke Interior Design. Low-impact architecture, natural textures and materials and interiors featuring woven details and artisan-crafted décor reflect Akagera’s landscape and Rwandan cultural influences.
Its food philosophy centres on sustainability and local sourcing with a team of Rwandan chefs drawing ingredients from nearby farmers and small-scale producers.
Magashi Peninsula expands Wilderness’ conservation work in Akagera – supporting predator monitoring, invasive plant management, ecosystem stewardship and education programmes. Employment and skills development remain key priorities with many staff from nearby villages.
Situated between Lake Rwanyakazinga and the Mutumba Mountains, the camp offers wildlife viewing across 10 habitats with activities including private dining, wellness treatments, water-based excursions, night drives, guided fishing, sundowners, gourmet picnics and rooftop Star Bed experiences. Wildlife in the area includes leopard, elephant, buffalo, Masai giraffe, zebra, topi, oribi, sitatunga, white and black rhino and tree-climbing lions.
