The Great Plains Conservation Foundation, in partnership with andBeyond, have an exciting update regarding their Rhinos Without Borders initiative.
The first 10 rhinos, part of a project launched by both Great Plains Conservation and andBeyond which ultimately will see over 100 rhinos relocated to Botswana.
The Botswanan government supports the initiative and has increased anti-poaching and security measures with the implementation of a dedicated ‘Rhino Squad’.
Each rhino was implanted with four different microchips, which transmit a radio signal to be tracked by security teams.
A military aircraft, the Ilyushin 76, was used to transport the animals to Maun and then 10 flat-bed trucks were used to drive them deep into the Okavango Delta.
The transportation team was accompanied by 60 soldiers, police and security teams.
Great Plains is also launching two new products: Land for Lions and the Great Plains Challenge Ride 4 Lions.
