Africa’s first Festival of Light to debut in Cape Town

LUMENOCITY, Africa’s first large-scale Festival of Light, will take place in Cape Town from April 9-12 nightly at the Company’s Garden.

The four-night festival will feature interactive installations, large-scale projection mapping and illuminated artworks created by South African artists, including Yay Abe. The event is positioned as a large-scale public art experience combining creative technology, immersive storytelling and light-based design.

According to Cape Town Etc, LUMENOCITY will present more than 20 large-scale artworks. In the lead-up to the festival, the South African Museum and National Gallery will be part of the visual programme with projection-mapping installations led by Abe across the buildings.

Headline attractions include a 10m-high light tower featuring a 5x5m LED cave for full visual immersion as well as the Beam of Hope light installation that will project a visible column of light into Cape Town’s skyline throughout the festival period.

The festival will run from dusk until late with illuminated pathways, ambient performances and sound-responsive artworks across the Gardens. Family-focused elements will include food trucks, multi-sensory zones and dedicated spaces for young visitors.
