DESPITE a Department of Transport statement yesterday warning consumers against booking on Durban-based low-cost carrier Airtime Airlines, the airline is adamant it will be launching flights tomorrow (Jan 30).
According to a well-placed source, the airline plans to, in conjunction with Air Quarius, launch flights tomorrow afternoon. Planned morning flights have been cancelled and passengers, they say, can expect a full refund.
A DoT spokesperson told TravelHub yesterday afternoon that the airline would not be allowed to operate flights until permission had been granted by the Air Services Licensing Council which is to meet only on February 18.
"It is unlikely an extraordinary meeting will be called before then to deal with Airtime Airlines' licensing issue in light of the fact that they have been marketing the airline under that name and selling tickets before having even been granted a license," said the DoT spokesperson.
