The Zanzibar, Platjan and Pondrift border posts between South Africa and Botswana were temporarily closed on Wednesday due to the overflowing of the Limpopo River caused by recent heavy rains. Pondrift can still be crossed by boat or cableway, but not by vehicles. The closure of the border posts has been confirmed by Limpopo Tourism and accommodation establishments in the area.
It is suggested to use the Groblersburg, Martins Drift and Stockpoort border posts as alternatives. Travellers planning to cross the SA-Botswana border in the near future are advised to check in advance if the borders are open. Travellers should also check with their accommodation establishments, as they are often able to advise on alternative routes and have the latest on-the-ground information.
