Aha Lesedi in the Cradle of Humankind, Gauteng, has invested R3.2m (€197 500) in the rebuilding of a new dance amphitheatre after it was destroyed in a runaway veld fire in 2016.
The new amphitheatre is set to offer an enhanced cultural experience. It is designed with African art murals and a buffalo front entrance walkway flowing into a large open central area overlooking five seating tiers, with a capacity for 300 guests.
It is constructed so that all supporting pillars are outside the floor area. The curved shape and elevated thatched roof, with a ceiling height of 12,7 metres – said to be one of the highest in Gauteng – further amplifies sounds and echoes. The amphitheatre can be used for a variety of events from dance performances, theatre productions, comedy shows, launches and small functions.
In addition, the outside area is ideal for small exhibitions, cocktails, coffee breaks and outdoor presentations.
Neil Bald, aha Hotels and Lodges CEO, says: “This new dance amphitheatre was designed to offer versatility, providing an ideal space for guests to enjoy an enhanced experience, no matter what type of event they attend.”

Aha Lesedi has WiFi capacity throughout the entire property, in all conference venues rooms and public areas. The conference venues can accommodate up to 300 delegates – Moringa Conference Centre hosts a maximum of 220 delegates in schoolroom or cinema-style seating and 180 in U-shape or roundtable banquet seating.
The decor depicts the tribe’s heritage with facts of each tribal homestead detailed. Aha Lesedi offers modern, comfortable rooms with en-suite bathrooms, decorated with wooden furniture and carpeted floors. Each room has a private entrance, a work desk, and satellite TV.
