LONZIM has yet to introduce the Harare-based passenger and freight low cost airline that it announced earlier this year.
The company, of which 20% is owned by African conglomerate, Lonrho, said it expected the flights from Harare to commence in August this year. A spokesperson for Lonzim told TravelHub that, although the flights had not commenced, the intention to introduce the airline in Harare was still there. He said there was no set date at the moment and that it was just a matter of getting things in order.
Lonzim allocated R26,3m to establish the airline in Zimbabwe saying it would develop the necessary functions in Harare to meet current demand. David Lenigas, executive chairman of Lonzim, said: “Fly540 sees the excellent facilities at Harare airport and Zimbabwe’s strategic location as fundamental elements to providing pan-African aviation services.”
