Southern & East African Tourism Update has implemented a new editorial structure that strengthens its leadership team and creates greater cohesion across Now Media’s travel and tourism publications.
This follows the medical boarding of long-standing editor Adele Mackenzie who has been navigating significant health challenges and is sadly unable to return to the role.
Over the past few months, Sue van Winsen has steadily steered the daily publication and now officially steps into the role of Managing Daily Editor: Travel & Tourism, overseeing daily news on Now Media’s Tourism Update and Travel News titles.
No stranger to the inbound industry, Sue previously held the role of Tourism Update editor in 2014. She left the company to work in the safari industry, returning to Now Media last year as editor of its outbound travel publication, Travel News.
With more than a decade of editorial experience in the outbound and inbound sectors, Sue brings deep industry knowledge and a strong understanding of both titles.
Supporting Sue in delivering timely, accurate and operationally relevant news to the inbound tourism sector is Dale Hes, who has been appointed Senior Journalist, and Journalist Yabo Dyakopu.
Kate Nathan, seasoned Travel News Features Editor, has been appointed Managing Features Editor: Travel & Tourism. In this new group role, Kate will drive the features strategy across both titles, focusing on expanding the features section, delivering dynamic, reader-focused content and creating innovative promotional opportunities for advertisers. She is supported by Journalist Christiaan Schulz who contributes to feature writing and coordination.
On the commercial side, Tourism Update continues to be supported by Sohana Grimmet, Business Development Executive, and Gwen Zarmaos, Advertising Coordinator. Both are longstanding members of the team, and remain key contacts for advertisers and partners.
“We are deeply saddened to lose Adele’s skill, editorial judgement and institutional knowledge on Tourism Update. She has made a lasting contribution to the publication, and the industry at large, for which we are very grateful,” says Anton Marsh, MD of Now Media.
“This restructure allows us to consolidate editorial leadership across our tourism and travel brands while ensuring the daily and features teams are properly supported. It’s exactly what’s needed to thrive – and this team brings the right experience and energy to take Tourism Update forward.”
