Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) has expanded its portfolio in Limpopo with the recent certification of Mashovhela Lodge in the Makhado area.
“We are delighted to welcome Mashovhela Lodge into the FTTSA family. Not only does this make our Limpopo portfolio even stronger thus making Fair Trade Tourism more accessible, but we also believe that Mashovhela possesses a lot of invaluable experience that they can share with their fellow FTTSA-certified businesses,” said FTTSA Marketing Manager, Katarina Mancama.
The Venda styled, eco-friendly lodge strives to minimise impact on the environment, spread benefits throughout the local economy and promote community wellbeing.
The lodge is entirely detached from Eskom's power-grid and in order to minimise the emission of greenhouse gases, the lodge runs on alternative, renewable and sustainable energy. Their hot water is heated by solar energy, supplemented by (alien) wood-fired boilers. For electricity they rely on photovoltaic solar energy, supplemented by diesel generators.
