Hippo kills Chinese tourist in Kenya

A Chinese tourist was killed by a hippopotamus near Lake Naivasha, part of the Great Rift Valley, after attempting to take a close-up photograph of a baby hippo, reports Kenya’s Standard Media.

The incident reportedly occurred at Lake Naivasha Country Club five kilometres from Naivasha town. The victim reportedly left her room at around 21h00 after spotting the young hippo.

“The information we have is that the tourist started taking pictures of the young hippo and she was attacked by the mother,” he said. She was seriously injured on the waist and neck and was rushed to a nearby private hospital where she was pronounced dead,” said Hellsgate National Park Warden, Osman Ibrahim.

Kenya Wildlife Service officers reportedly shot the hippo.
