Historic safari lodge reopens in South Luangwa

Chichele Presidential in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park has opened its doors after a complete transformation. The rebuild was a collaboration between the lodge owners, the Fox Browne Creative design team, partner architects Jack Alexander Studio and Chiawa Safaris.

The lodge has a rich history and was originally built in the 1970s as a private retreat for Zambia’s first president, Kenneth Kaunda.

The new Chichele Presidential features 10 air-conditioned Vista suites – each with a private butler’s lobby, sitting room, bedroom, bathroom and a covered veranda with a private plunge pool and outdoor shower. Two of these suites, one offering disabled access, are connected by a safari lounge with a private sitting room and dining room – ideal for families or friends travelling together. A dedicated golf cart is available and all suites offer WiFi.

The main area includes a communal deck, gym overlooking a rim-flow pool and a spa treatment room.

Activities include guided walking safaris and game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles. For young guests, educational children’s safaris are also available.

Chichele Presidential operates annually from March to January and is accessed via Mfuwe Airport where a Chichele vehicle will collect guests for a 90-minute drive through a local village and South Luangwa National Park to reach the lodge.
