Innovative sleep-out experience launches in Kenya

Segera and NAY PALAD joined forces to create an innovative sleeping experience, the Bird Nest.

Segera and NAY PALAD have teamed up and launched the Bird Nest at Segera Retreat in Kenya.

The Bird Nest is a collaboration between Segera and Carolin Dekeyser, Founder of NAY PALAD and brought to life by architect Daniel Piuzet.

The Bird Nest is a new concept of nesting and sleeping like a bird – above the ground, with a 360-degree bird’s eye-view of the wilderness. The entire structure is built and designed from raw materials, such as farmed wood and tree branches that have been woven into a nest by local community members.

Built alongside a river, the Bird Nest is designed to sleep two guests, but a small family is also welcome, as there are two floors – the first floor is sheltered, and the top deck.

The interior suite features various trimmings and has a fully equipped bathroom with running water which is solar heated, and a flushing toilet.

Guests wishing to spend a night at the Bird Nest will arrive just before sunset after a game drive or bush walk. The nest is lit up with lanterns, and sundowners are provided, as well as culinary pickings laid out on the top deck.

On offer, is a picnic-style dinner on the top deck where guests may sleep under the stars. The following morning guests are served with a picnic breakfast on their doorstep.

“To wake up to the magical sound of wildlife and birds, surrounded by pristine nature as far as the eye can see, is a life-changing experience; this is a place of true, untouched wonderment,” says Jens Kozany, Segera General Manager.

The NAY PALAD Bird Nest experience is included in the rate for guests staying at Segera Retreat for five nights or more. For those on a shorter stay, the cost of the Bird Next experience starts as $1 150 per night (€981).
