Kgalagadi sees heavy rainfall

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park recorded rare rainfall over the past weekend with Nossob Rest Camp measuring 109mm – unusually high for the Kalahari where this would typically accumulate over a month rather than just two days.

Other areas of the park also received significant rainfall. Visitors can expect to see the Red Kalahari sands temporarily transformed into a green, thriving landscape.

While the rainfall provided much-needed relief to the arid environment, minor storm-related damages were reported at Nossob Rest Camp including guest tents and several fallen trees. Some internal park roads also sustained light damage.

Park management has advised visitors to use high ground clearance or 4×4 vehicles until water levels subside and repairs are completed.

Maintenance work is already underway to restore affected areas.
