Kirstenbosch opens Boomslang Aerial Walkway

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in the Western Cape has opened a tree-top canopy walkway, allowing guests to experience the gardens from high above the ground.

The Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway was inspired by the form of a snake’s skeleton and has been nicknamed ‘Boomslang’ (tree snake).

The walkway is situated in the Kirstenbosch Arboretum, which houses a collection of over 450 indigenous trees. It is 130m long and peaks at roughly 11.5m above the ground, offering 360-degree views of Cape Town and the city’s mountain slopes.

The walkway has been constructed from galvanised steel. It follows two years of planning and will be free to anyone who has entered the gardens, for which an entry ticket is required.
