LEGENDS Lodges, Hotels and Resorts officially launched the R3bn Legend Golf and Safari Resort to media and investors last week.
As part of a joint venture between Legend Lodges, Hotels and Resorts and IFA Hotels and Resorts Ltd (IFA SA) and IFA Hotels and Resorts Kuwait (IFA Kuwait) the resort will form part of the flagship 22 000-hectare malaria-free Entabeni Safari Conservancy, located within the greater Unesco Waterberg Biosphere of the Limpopo province.
Legend Golf and Safari Resort is a 'one of a kind' 18-hole professional golf course whereby each hole has been designed by 18 top international golfers.
According to the golf director, David Riddle, the course is 8km - the longest in Africa. “The sheer scale of the golf course, with large undulating greens and strategic bunkers and the majestic mountainous backdrop, make for a unique golfing experience,” says Riddle.
He says the 'Extreme 19th' hole is the longest Par 3 in the world - set high up on the Hanglip Mountain - only accessible by helicopter. Golfers are invited to tee off from the edge of the mountain and if they hit a hole in one, they will receive US$1m.
Some of the main facilities include a Welcome and Recreational Centre, offering guests a variety of restaurants and dining options, boutique shops, a theatre and various leisure activities including safari game drives.
The Big Five resort, will include an internationally branded five-star hotel, wellness centre and health spa with conferencing facilities for up to 2 500 delegates.
