Marataba scraps age limit on drives

Marataba Safari Lodge, part of the MORE Family Collection within South Africa’s Marakele National Park, Limpopo, has updated its safari policy to allow children of all ages on game drives.

The update comes amid a rise in demand for multi-generational travel. According to MMGY Travel Intelligence, 86% of American travellers with children are interested in international travel in the next two years with safari options often limited due to age restrictions.

“Safari has always been about connection. Whether it is to the land, to wildlife or to one another,” said Robert More, CEO of MORE Family Collection. “We’re passionate about sharing our love for the wilderness with every guest, young and old. Marataba’s new offering is designed to inspire a lifelong respect for nature in tomorrow’s conservation champions.”

Marataba’s new approach includes:

  • An all-ages welcome policy, allowing children of any age to join game drives with their families.
  • An expanded Mack & Madi programme now catering to a broader age range with new nature-focused activities under supervision.
  • A new Eco-Garden experience, offering children a chance to engage with conservation through play, fully integrated into the Mack & Madi offering.

The lodge has retained popular existing features such as the Thabametsi Treehouse (a sleep-out experience for children aged six and up) and the Miss Mara Water Safari, which is designed to accommodate guests of all mobility levels.

“This isn’t just about removing age barriers. It’s about creating genuine connection across generations,” said More. “What lingers long after the game drives and starlit dinners is something far quieter: the feeling of having truly connected to the wild, the people you love and something far bigger than yourself.”
