Lion cub charges dropped

CHARGES against Port Elizabeth Seaview Game Park owner, Rusty Gibb, for illegally transporting four lion cubs, have been dropped. Gibb faced a R10 000 fine for illegally transporting the animals to a promotional tourism function in May on the Blue Train parked in the Port Elizabeth station, reportedly at the request of Tourism Port Elizabeth. Senior public prosecutor, Hannelie Bakker, said that because of overcrowded Court Rolls, a directive had been given that all cases should be screened carefully so as not to waste the court's time. "In light of this, the case has been withdrawn," she said. (Rosemary Wilson)
