Livingstone Tourism Board calls for tax-free zone

If Livingstone becomes a tax-free zone, it could see an influx of new investment.

The Livingstone Tourism Board (LTB) has called on the Zambian government to declare Livingstone a tax-free economic zone to boost tourism and economic growth.

Livingstone Tourism Board Chairperson, Alexander Munthali, said Livingstone stood to attract investors and create employment opportunities once the area was declared a tax-free economic zone through provision of tax incentives and tax holidays to potential investors.

Economist, Herryman Moono, supported the call from the LTB. He said the call came as a result of the board realising the growing economic potential of tourism in Livingstone. He added that, if Livingstone became a tax-free zone, it could see an influx of new investment in tourism infrastructure and an increase in tourist arrivals.
