LUFTHANSA has announced that it will further expand its routes into Africa with additional services and codeshare agreements.
Speaking at ITB 2009, Thierry Antinori, executive vice president of sales and marketing, said that Africa was a key region for the airline’s expansion in the long-term.
“With more than 900m people, Africa is already the second-largest continent in terms of size of population. In 2050, more than 1,8bn people will live there. Actively developing this market is an important task.”
He further said that the airline had already significantly expanded its offer with new flights to both Luanda and Malabo. Further expansion into the continent would be facilitated by the planned incorporation of Brussels Airlines into the Star Alliance.
