Marriott International announced the signing of an agreement with Pennyroyal Gibraltar Limited, to debut The Ritz-Carlton brand in Zanzibar Archipelago. The hotel is set to open in 2021. It is a 45 minute drive from Zanzibar International Airport.
The hotel comprises 90 rooms and is an all-suite and villa resort including over water villas, each with its own private pool. There will also be four restaurants and bars. The resort also comprises an outdoor pool, a health club, a beach club and a kids club.
Guests will have access to a spa with eight private spa suites offering individual and couple treatments as well as outdoor treatments. The resort will also include the first signature golf course in East Africa, designed by Ernie Els, a deep-water marina, an aqua park, international polo club and super yacht facilities.

The hotel will be part of the Amber Resort complex expected to be the largest mixed use development in Africa occupying approximately 1,750 hectares of Indian Ocean coastline in the north east of the island.
There are five international hotels planned for Zanzibar Amber Resort and The Ritz-Carlton is an addition to the 5-star luxury community, with Anantara Zanzibar to be the first to open in 2020.
