Mpumalanga soccer preparations kick off

CONSTRUCTION of a R600-million soccer stadium in Mpumalanga is in full swing. The stadium is to be situated on community-owned land in Mataffin outside Nelspruit and will host some of the matches during the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The Provincial 2010 Master Plan has been approved by the 2010 Political Task Team and the Executive Council, and is ready for implementation. The master plan aims to involve various sectors in the preparations for the World Cup, including economic investment and tourism; infrastructure; stadiums and related facilities; safety and security; funding and legacy projects. Legacy projects are those being built for use during the tournament to benefit the area beyond 2010 and include the new stadium, an international convention centre, and rail and road improvements.
