MTPA strengthens anti-poaching capabilities

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has welcomed a donation of rhino anti-poaching equipment worth over R500 000 (US$30 700).

The donation will support ongoing investments by WeWild Africa in improving anti-poaching work within the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve.

The donation was funded by the seventh replenishment of the Global Environment Facility under the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme and the South African National Biodiversity Institute.

“We are deeply grateful for the support we continue to receive from government and the private sector. This equipment will further enhance communication capabilities within our nature reserves. Without such partnerships, it would be extremely difficult to effectively secure and protect our reserves,” said Fish Mahlalela, MTPA Interim Board Chairperson.
