Bloemfontein International Airport has been officially renamed Bram Fischer International Airport, after the struggle veteran.
Public consultations and hearings were conducted in December 2011 at the City Hall in Bloemfontein and the name of Bram Fischer was endorsed. On August 29, the South African Geographical Names Council (SAGNC) recommended the proposed name of Bram Fischer International Airport to the Minister for approval.
Minister of Arts and Culture, Paul Mashatile, approved and gazetted the renaming of Bloemfontein International Airport to Bram Fischer International Airport on November 2.
