Rwanda’s Nyungwe Forest National Park has launched what it says is East Africa’s longest zipline to diversify the park’s adventure tourism offering.
Approximately 1.8km long and suspended between 20-50m above the ground, the zipline is divided into three sections. This includes a 350m-long stretch from the Uwinkwa Visitor Centre near the park’s entrance, a 500m stretch across the valleys and a final 1km section leading back to the park’s existing canopy walkway.
The Rwanda Development Board anticipates that the zipline will attract 3 500 tourists by the end of its first year in operation, growing to 9 000 tourists annually by the fifth year.
Situated in southwest Rwanda, Nyungwe Forest is Rwanda’s second largest national park and is home to over 13 primate species, including Eastern chimpanzees.
