New camp opens in Welgevondon Game Reserve

Camp Ndlovu came about due to growing demand from guests at The Residence in Houghton, Johannesburg.

Camp Ndlovu, part of The Residence Portfolio, in the Welgevondon Game Reserve in the Waterberg region of Limpopo, opened its doors on October 1.

The camp is in a malaria-free area on a 35 000-hectare stretch within the reserve, which is home to the Big Five.

The camp consists of four suites, each fitted with an outdoor shower and bath, lounge with a fireplace and a private plunge pool.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served and boma dining is also on offer, as well as inside and outside dining.

Activities include game drives in an open game vehicle, safari walks with knowledgeable game rangers, as well as the option of an African culinary experience. There is also a gymnasium on the property.

Aaron Menezes, Executive Chef of The Residence Portfolio, says: “We started The Residence in Houghton as a five-bedroom B&B seven years ago. Due to demand we expanded, and then again, which left us with three Houghton homes that we converted into the 18-suite boutique hotel. We decided to expand our offerings as guests continuously asked if we had a safari property – so we have now.”

Menezes describes Camp Ndlovu as small and intimate, and with the addition of the new safari property, The Residence Portfolio was formed.

“We are busy expanding The Portfolio over and above the two current properties,” concludes Menezes.
