Luiana Plains Safaris has announced the opening of Luiana Expedition Camp in Angola’s Luengue-Luiana National Park with a soft opening planned for June and full operations from 2027.
The project was approved in 2025 by the Angolan Ministry of Environment and Tourism. Luengue-Luiana National Park, proclaimed in 2011, is part of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) and is the largest park in the KAZA network.
The camp is located in the Luiana Core area east of Jamba and south of the Luiana River. The park comprises mopane and miombo savannah, wide floodplains and riverine systems linked to the Cuando (Kwando), Luiana and Luengue rivers. It functions as a major catchment for the Kwando and Zambezi river systems.
Wildlife in the area is in a phase of recovery with large herds of elephant and Cape buffalo as well as lion, leopard, cheetah and African wild dog. The park also supports species such as sable, roan, lechwe and eland across four habitats: open woodland, dense woodland, open grassland and aquatic vegetation.
Luiana Expedition Camp is designed as an expedition-style product aimed at travellers seeking remote destinations. The camp will comprise 10 tented suites and two guide tents – all with en-suite bathrooms, electrical charging points, fans and warm water. A central area will include a lounge, dining space and bar.
Activities will include 4x4 game drives, guided nature walks, boat cruises and birdwatching.
Access will be via the Namibian Zambezi Region (Caprivi Strip) followed by a two-hour 4x4 transfer to camp. Charter flights to the Kongola area via Katima Mulilo (Mpacha Airport) will also be available for clearance.
