Ngorongoro Crater Camp reopens following relocation

Ngorongoro Crater Camp, an A&K Sanctuary, has reopened following its relocation within Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

The camp, accessible by fly-in and overland itineraries, has been repositioned on an elevated site overlooking the Serengeti plains, approximately 25 minutes from the Ngorongoro Crater descent road.

Located within the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the redeveloped camp features 10 tented suites designed to offer increased space and privacy. Interiors include polished hardwood floors, muslin-draped king-size beds and private viewing decks. The communal spaces, including the dining, lounge and bar areas, were redesigned, showcasing local craftmanship.

According to A&K Sanctuary, 97% of the camp’s interiors were locally made and custom-designed. The refurbishment incorporated a low-impact approach, with no trees felled during construction, involving Maasai community members throughout the build process and a transition to 90% solar power.

Guest experiences include twice-daily game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater, visits to a Maasai boma and excursions to the Olduvai Gorge Museum.

Seasonal trips to the Ndutu Plains, a key calving area during the Great Migration between December and March, are also available alongside visits to Nasera rock art sites and the Shifting Sands.
