People on the Move: Madeleine Roux appointed GM at Southern Sun Hemingways

Madeleine Roux has taken the helm as GM at Southern Sun Hemingways in East London. Roux has over 16 years’ experience in the hospitality and gaming sector having worked at popular casinos and resorts in SA, the Comores, Seychelles and Mozambique. 


She began her career in finance and has worked as Deputy General Manager at Palazzo Montecasino and was GM at Garden Court Sandton.


Nelson Rodrigues has been appointed GM at Valley Lodge & Spa in Magaliesburg. Rodrigues started his career as a waiter at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town, where he moved up to the position of resident manager. Over the past 22 years, he has managed properties including the Mount Grace Country Hotel in Magaliesburg and Bushmanskloof in the Cederberg. “I’m thrilled to have joined Valley Lodge & Spa and already feel passionate about this luxury property,” says Rodrigues.


The South African National Convention Bureau (SANCB) has appointed consultancy firm, Gaining Edge, to help strengthen South Africa’s business events profile and grow business in Asia, specifically China and India – two critically important business events markets for South Africa. 


“Appointing Gaining Edge is a natural extension of our strategy to grow our presence in key countries in Europe and Asia. We are excited about the appointment of Gaining Edge whose services and expertise, we believe will fast track our profile and presence on the Asian continent,” says Thulani Nzima, CEO of SA Tourism.  


SA Tourism has appointed two marketing agencies to market South Africa in Brazil.


An agreement has been signed with Tatiana Isler of TI Comunicações (TIC), appointing her Country Representative within a full marketing agency on behalf of SA Tourism. The agreement also incorporates the services of Marcelo Marques, who was appointed on behalf of SA Tourism as Trade Relations Manager in July 2013. The agreement further includes setting up dedicated premises for South African Tourism in São Paulo.

Another service provider, Digital Industry, has been appointed to manage SA Tourism’s social media and digital campaigns in Brazil.
