Pic of the Week

Tourism Update’s Pic of the Week goes to photographer Willie van Eeden. The photo was taken on the Ol Chorro Oiroua Conservancy which forms part of the Greater Maasai Mara conservancies during a visit to the EcoTraining camp at the Mara Training Centre.

Description: “In the distance we saw the small herd of elephants making their way across the great plains of the Maasai Mara. We stopped the vehicle and waited for them to approach us and hopefully do the ‘walk by’ we had anticipated. At one stage they were so close to our vehicle that my longs lens was just too big to get any quality photos of them. They were about 10m-12m away from us when I took this photo. Luckily for us, all the elements played along this specific afternoon. The rain stayed away for a short while, the soft light of the sun came out and the clouds in the background enhanced the dramatic skies.”

Criteria for Pic of the Week submissions are as follows:

Photos must have been taken in Southern or East Africa

Photos must be between 1 and 5 megabytes

Photos must be submitted with the following information: when and where it was taken, the name of the photographer, and a short description of the context around the photo
