There seemed to be a collective sigh of relief from the tourism and hospitality industry when President Cyril Ramaphosa announced last night (July 11) that the Unemployment Insurance Fund Temporary Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) would be extended to July.
But Tourism Update readers have highlighted several issues affecting pay-out of claims, including massive delays in payment and rejections based on SIC codes or alleged ineligibility for claims.
The latter is despite confirmation that the tourism industry, in its entire value chain, qualified for the extended TERS programme.
