Donna Abberley, Meeting and Convention Sales Manager at South African Tourism and the South African National Convention Bureau, has left her position after being made redundant on January 15.
Abberley told Tourism Update that the move followed the company’s decision to centralise to the Johannesburg head office.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at South African Tourism, appreciating every opportunity to experience the country and its people,” Abberley said. “I have met so many talented professionals along the way from around the world who have taught me a great deal, both personally and professionally.
“I will sorely miss my colleagues and friends at South African Tourism and the National Convention Bureau, and wish them the best of luck and success in the future.”
Thulani Nzima, CEO of SA Tourism, confirmed that Abberley was no longer an employee but did not give a reason as to why she had left her position. “South African Tourism is, however, not at liberty to discuss this in any further detail as it is an internal matter. Our position was discussed and clarified with Donna Abberley and she has accepted the rationale behind the decision.”
