Table Mountain Cableway will be closed from Monday, July 25 to Sunday August 7 for its scheduled annual maintenance.
During this period the top station generator will be replaced, there will be maintenance of the 11 kilovolt electricity line, cleaning of the ropes and slack rope tests, renewing switches and bearings where necessary, servicing of the main gearbox, generators and back-up generators, as well as general electronic component changes and control checks.
“Annual maintenance is carried out in order to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV),” said Gaziem du Toit, Cableway’s Technical Manager. “Not only do we want to ensure that safety standards are maintained, but we also aim to improve our Cableway offering.”
The top station pathways will also be resurfaced, the toilets refurbished, and departure and arrivals platforms at the lower station will be retiled.
Table Mountain Café is revamping its menu to showcase authentic South African cuisine. This new menu will be available when the Cableway reopens after shutdown.
