The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) hosted a Women’s Day Celebration on August 18 at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg. The day honoured the role women play in the tourism space while celebrating the TBCSA’s 30 years of supporting South Africa’s tourism private sector.
Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa, CEO of the TBCSA, welcomed guests, noting that the organisation hopes to champion greater representation of women in ownership, leadership and decision-making in the tourism industry.
After panel discussions featuring leaders in the field, such as Roshene Singh, former Chief Marketing Officer of SA Tourism, Vanya Lessing, former Chairperson of the TBCSA, Lindelwa Isabelle, Deputy Chairperson of the TBCSA, and Jenni Vermaas, Industry Growth Manager of Cape Town Tourism, women were honoured for their contribution to the industry.
Makhotso Sotyu, Deputy Minister of Tourism, presented Tanya Abrahamse, former Executive Director of the TBCSA, and Mmatšatši Ramawela (in absentia), former CEO of the TBCSA, with Legacy Recognition awards for their leadership, service and lasting contribution to the development of tourism in South Africa.
