Twelve Apostles Hotel evacuated due to encroaching fire

The Twelve Apostles Hotel in Cape Town was evacuated on Thursday evening (October 12), as fires spread around the Oudekraal area.

Officials of the City of Cape Town said it was a precautionary measure, with no injuries reported.

Working on Fire, a government-funded, job creation programme that focuses on implementing integrated fire management in South Africa, issued a warning on Twitter on Thursday evening, saying that buses were assisting with the evacuation.

Working on Fire also sent out a warning on Facebook that Victoria Road from Llandudno to Camps Bay had been closed off to the public.

Times Live reported that the fires began in the Oudekraal-Camps Bay area on Wednesday, and were fanned by strong winds.

The City of Cape Town deployed a fire truck, along with 50 firefighters on Wednesday to fight the blaze.
