SANParks has improved access in its parks for people with physical, intellectual or sensory difficulties.

Chris Patton, Strategic Tourism Manager for SANParks, said the organisation had taken particular interest in guests who may have special needs around physical facilities or interpretation of their environments.

SANParks has equipped all mainstream facilities with access ramps and accessible public toilets. Some boardwalks, bird hides, picnic sites, lookout points and interpretive centres have been upgraded to make them more accessible. All parks have select accommodation suitable for guests with impaired mobility.

Patton also said that SanParks had published a booklet:Wheeling/Feeling/Signing as a guide to universal access in South African national parks. Other initiatives include audio descriptive sound-tracks and scent and sound exhibitions.
