The situation in Hoedspruit, near the R36, has improved and is no longer affecting lodges in the Hoedspruit area, says Bryan West, Sales and Marketing Manager at Karongwe Lodge.

The R36 at the Olifants Bridge after Abel Erasmus Pass going north towards Tzaneen, was closed due to striking residents digging a trench in the road.
West said there were currently no protestors on the road and that all vehicles could pass the area between Hoedspruit and Ohrigstad. All rubble has also been moved.
“The R36 at the Oakes is still questionable as they are currently preventing a flow of traffic with a truck with slashed tyres parked across the road, however no protestors are present. Vehicles are able to drive around the trench, but I still suggest guests avoid this road if they can,” said West.
The R40 between Nelspruit and Hoedspruit is running without any issues and guests can use either the N1 via Polokwane and Tzaneen or the green route on the R40 through Nelspruit to Hoedspruit, as an alternative.
“Please remind people that this can change at any given time or day and there are no guarantees. There is also no such thing as unofficial ‘toll’ gates and spot fines do not exist,” added West.
