Abelana River Lodge to reopen late-2026

Abelana Game Reserve, which confirmed significant flood damage at Abelana River Lodge following last month’s flooding across Limpopo, says the property will require extensive clean-up and refurbishment despite minimal structural damage.

In a statement, the reserve said Abelana River Lodge’s 20 suites and public areas were affected. The recovery period is expected to be about nine months. Work will include drying out the lodge, interior and exterior painting, and the reinstallation of room services.

Abelana Safari Camp was not damaged although the area remained very wet after approximately 1 000mm of rain fell in a short period. According to the lodge, damage to roads in and around the camp will take months to repair. The lodge also confirmed that dams in the southern part of the reserve are now full.

The reserve says there have been “very few losses of game” and anti-poaching staff are working to ensure the safety of wildlife.

All bookings for Abelana River Lodge from March to November will be cancelled and deposits refunded.
