EMIRATES’ regional manager for southern Africa, Juan van Rensburg, has confirmed that the airline is seeking a third daily flight into Johannesburg and hopes to begin a daily flight to Cape Town. He reiterated the statements made by the airline’s executive vice president, Ghaith Al Ghaith who was in South Africa over the weekend. “It is our intention to start these new services, but obviously we need the support of SAA, the government and other roleplayers to make it a reality. We hope to increase capacity to South Africa by around 50%,” said Van Rensburg. Al Ghaith said the chances were good that the additional flights could be introduced later this year. (Miguel de Sousa)
